Get Started in Losing Weight

Admit it, at one point in time you have been intrigued or even tried diets that promised to let you lose weight in x number of days. The idea that one just has to change what food to eat in a week or so and the end-result is shedding a few pounds and inches off one's body is quite appealing. However, there are cases of weight loss stories where those who have successfully lost weight eventually gained them back. What happened? It is because one has to realize that losing weight is not a quick fix. It is a gradual and ongoing process that results from changing one's eating habits and keeping the body active. The following are tips on getting started to losing weight:

1. Make a food diary on all the food that you eat, plus the amount taken. This will immediately show any healthy food you are missing or the unhealthy ones you keep on eating.

2. Be aware and cut back on the food that was eaten in excess based on your food diary.

3. Eat a balanced meal, and in moderation. Had too much sweets the night before? Compensate by cutting back the next day.

4. Exercise regularly! This may be in the form of hitting the gym for an hour or so, taking yoga classes, or just being active all day: walk going to work or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

5. Avoid snacking! Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and skip those in-between meals.

6. Drink lots of water. This keeps your body hydrated at all times.

7. As much as possible, avoid fast food and prepare your meals using the freshest  and in season produce.

Basically the two most important things to remember when trying to lose weight or at least maintaining your ideal weight is to eat healthily and sensibly and to exercise regularly. It may take a while before the results show, but at least you will feel satisfaction in what you eat and at the same time feel refreshed and energized too.
