Eanna is sooooo cute... Look at her sleeping position...

Anyway, last weekend, we invited my nephew to stay with us. Here are the cousins, having some home-made chocolate chip pancakes with strawberry syrup (maple syrup for me).

This was after we went to Salcedo Market to do my bi-monthly shopping there. That night, we went to my Uncle's place to celebrate my cousin's birthday. Yummy yummy food, as always. Then yesterday, I invited my parents and sibs over for dinner as a post-Father's Day celebration. I prepared steak (yummy...), baked baby potatoes, salad, and pasta with sardines. Totally loved this weekend. I just wished dear hubby was with us. Huhuhu...

Cough Scare

My little baby got me worried last night because of the wheezing sounds she made while sleeping. I was so paranoid that she might have asthma that I didn't sleep the whole night and monitored her breathing, fixing her sleeping position every now and then to make sure that her upper body is elevated.

So today I took a leave of absence to attend to my daughter. I called the clinic but the pedia's secretary told me that the Doc would only be in at around 5 pm. We went to Megamall first (clinic is very the place) to stroll just a bit, as well as buy her a walker. I dropped by National Bookstore to check out what's new and look for the book A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, but it wasn't available. I would have wanted to get myself a copy of this. Too bad. I got to buy me a pair of black jeans too. No shoes, sorry. I also wanted to buy the console I badly needed for our bedroom but I guess it's not meant for us because the barcode was constantly rejected by the cashier's whatever you call it machine.

5 pm came and so we headed to the clinic. Doc told me that Eanna's lungs were clear and maybe I was just too paranoid. He recommended that when she's sleeping, I can "nebulize" her but only using saline, no anti-asthma meds. I was relieved that little baby is not in danger of having asthma, although the doc said it's too early to tell whether she'll have asthma or not. I'll continue to pray hard she won't develop this sickness. I wouldn't want her to experience what I've been through as an asthmatic kid.

Blinds With Curtains?

I have been chatting earlier with friend O and J, and our topic was J's desire to fix her living room. Since lately I've been in the mood to design while O is also busy beautifying their new pad, this topic was "easy" for us. J didn't want to do any major renovations, so we had to work on what she currently has.

This is what I have made so far for her...

A main concern though is the window treatments. She currently has blinds and is quite hesitant to add curtains. O however said she can use both.

Watcha think?

Little Weird Factor

Ack! I really dislike it when my pens here in the office get lost! I misplaced my sign pen and I summoned all (ok, some only) our trainees and asked them to look for that pen. I just couldn't work knowing the fact that something is missing. My staff also helped in looking for this pen because they know that I only sign papers using that one. That's also one reason why I tell the trainees who fix and clean our areas not to move my pens, or at least to put them in places where it's visible (if I left them in a visible area too). I know, I know, it's weird (I admit that). I've been like this since I was little, which is why my sister and I ended up arguing because she has this habit of getting my pens and not returning them. Anyway... hope I see that pen soon.

My Mom opened up the idea of our family going to Hong Kong this July, and suddenly my plan of "saving because I have overdone my spending this year" just disappeared into thin air. Hello, it's just rare that our whole family will go out of the country (usually we do it by installments, the last time we did was back more than ten years ago noh!), so even if Enrique will not be here, might as well take that opportunity. I'll just probably resist the temptation to go to the Goyard store. Hehehe.

Anyway, as I was thinking of what to bring and all, it dawned on me that I do not have luggage of my own. The one I used before for traveling was my Dad's. Gash. I guess I have to buy something for myself (Enrique has his own) like Delsey luggage. If I'd bring Eanna with me (most likely Enrique will say NO!), then I'd be needing a bigger one. Gash, I am getting too excited for this. Can't help it though!

A tag from Vannie.

The rules are simple. At the end of the post, the player tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blog and leave a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was in 3rd year college, stressing over the fact that it's the year that would determine whether I would be a SMEG (Sure M.E. Graduate) or I would have to shift to another course. I'm glad I succeeded!

2. What are the 5 things on my to-do list today?

Go to mass.
Pay credit card bills.
Buy Eanna's milk.
Work my ass off so I can go home at exactly 5:30 pm.
Continuously forgive and forget those who have done me wrong.
Be good to others.

3. Snacks I enjoy:

Can you call sushi snacks? Hehehe. I also like chips (Hint of Lime flavor) with salsa and homemade guacamole

4. Place where I lived:

Manila, Mandaluyong, Pasig, and back to Mandaluyong

5. Things I’d do if I were a billionaire:

Travel and try to save the world. Hahaha.

6. People I want to know more about:

Hmmm... My husband. Want to know him more every single day for the rest of our lives. :P Plus of course my online friends.

Another Mayday

Just when I was getting excited over the news that the MarOps management team will be scheduled to go onboard one of our vessels (in different times of course), news broke that another domestic passenger ship sank, most likely due to the storm bombarding us right now. Now I'm a little hesitant to go onboard a vessel. I know, I know, it's a different experience and it would be a different case because our vessels have very high safety standards, but still, the fear of bad things happening are there. Initially I was really really looking forward to it, as if it's one of those European cruises or something, but maybe I should get over this news before I get ecstatic about it. Heck, that's gonna be one week onboard you know. I just hope my turn won't be soon; I don't want to have my vessel visit this rainy season!

Anyway, going back to the topic... I truly feel for the families who are hoping against hope that their beloved who were onboard that ship are alive. Four though were found dead, and around 700 still missing. What a sad day brought about by this stormy weather. Somebody should be accountable for this incident. Yoohoo... government, are you listening? Do you even care? Please do something!

Oh Frank!

Frank woke me up early in the morning. He was furiously banging at our glass windows, I thought they'd break. He was so mad we had to bring all our herbs and plants indoors. So mad that he didn't allow us to go out of our home to go to mass and stroll at the malls. He put on hold a lot of flights. I surely wouldn't risk it even if I have travel health insurance.

I hope he'll come to his senses and lower his temper soon, else he'd drown the whole city with his wrath.

Little Sleeping Beauty

After a tiring night, I woke up really late and was unable to catch my baby in our place. You see, she has a very rigid schedule, and part of it is her having to go down and play with her "friensters" every morning, after her breakfast. Here's my little angel an hour after she came back from our play area.

Isn't she adorable? I just can't take my eyes off her when she's so fast asleep. I still couldn't take out her habit of having her pacifier, though I can tolerate her other "security blanket," which is her cloth diaper. Anyway, she's just too cute especially when she covers her eyes when trying to fall asleep! I used to say that when I get married, I won't have kids right away so hubby and I can enjoy each other's company. When I see my little angel though, her smile, her face while asleep, I'm like... "what was I thinking that time?!?"

Don't you just get annoyed when you hear that especially when you are busy shopping in Greenhills? Hahaha. Anyway, a seller of DVD's dropped by outside our office building and he was selling pirated DVD's. Of course I never bothered to look nor inquire about the goods, for fear of making our seafarers think that I condone buying pirated stuff (it is in our standard "speech" to remind crew not to bring any form of pirated materials, such as cds, dvds, or any other fake items). In all honesty however, I frown upon the purchase of pirated stuff, and it's just sad that there's still a proliferation of fake/imitation goods. I must admit that at one point I had purchases pirated dvd's (because there's no original yet!), but I didn't really enjoy watching because of poor quality of the picture, not to mention the poor closed captioning done (especially the non-English films). Still, sometimes one (I myself included) gets to be tempted especially if the goods are DVD copies already (not those that were just filmed in the cinemas). Who wouldn't like having 10 movies in 1 dvd right, especially if the quality is manageable?

It really takes willpower to resist that kind of "temptation." So the next time you go to Greenhills, if you hear those bee-like sounds buzzing beside you, just ignore and continue shopping (non-imitation goods I hope?).

My Little Own Sweepy

Our little girl is truly growing up... She no longer likes to be carried nor to ride on her stroller. She likes to walk when we are strolling in the mall (which means back-aches for us, since we have to hold her hand or arms for support). Whenever she bids me goodbye, she also likes to ride the car (up until the gate). Plus, she no longer likes to be contained in her crib, nor crawl in "soft" areas like our sofa (which we put together to enclose it). When she's tired of walking around the house but still wants to move, she wants to "sweep" the floor. I guess aside from checking out espresso makers (see previous post), I also have to check out Electrolux vacuums (sorry, I can't help but think of the commercial of the friendly Electrolux man, complete with the jingle. hahaha). Now there aren't too much dust in our place, but it's still good to be on the safer side and make sure our little angel won't be sniffing any dust and soil her hands as well.

Rainy Days Are In Town

The rainy days are now in town, and for some weird reason, this is also the time when I crave for... ice cream! Yup, the colder the better you know. So anyway, I was watching my usual favorite cooking shows in the Lifestyle Network, and I salivated over the desserts featured, especially those involving ice cream. The one thing I would like to try though is the very simple ice cream with poured espresso on it. Now I'm not really a coffee girl, but on TV, the outcome just looked so divine, I just want to make one at home. Now, I have to head off to SM again to look for espresso machines suitable for espresso dummies like me. Gash, I can't wait to try that creamy yummy dessert.... *Sigh* No wonder I'm ballooning like crazy. Can't stop thinking about the next food to cook, the next dessert to concoct. I'm loving every single experience though!

He asked me again when we were in our wedding planning process. That was right before we attended the w@w Christmas party last December 2005. He just suddenly became so emotional and embraced and kissed me (right in front of Angie Cruz - our makeup artists, we had a trial makeup that time, my brother, and our two helpers). The he brought out this tiny red box with my e-ring inside. That was such a funny and yet romantic moment for us. Why? because he forgot to ask me to marry him. Hahaha.
Of course I said yes, when he did.

Anything Less Than Mad Love Is A Waste of Your Time

categories: ,
Finally! I've been thinking about this article and I just realized I have a copy of it in my mailbox.
I read it again and it just made sense to me all over again. I'm glad both Enrique and I took that big leap of faith (in what we feel for each other). Because gash, if it ain't called mad love, then I don't know what else to describe it.

Anything Less Than Mad Love Is A Waste Of Your Time
by Leah S. Castañeda

One of the most recently released movies that have perhaps hit home (cringe!), so to speak, is the low-budget "Dream for an Insomniac" starring Ione Skye and Jennifer Aniston. The lead actor used to be a child star but unfortunately, the movies which catapulted him to fame have already slipped my mind. Try to rent a copy of this movie not because of the talent of those who starred in it but because of the dialogue. One of those lines which bore a hole in my heart was, and I quote (not verbatim, though):

"I don't want to be sixty years old and married to my second-best choice, wondering what ever happened to the one who got away."

This is just one of the two great lines in that movie. I'll tell you what the other one is later. Meantime, let me concentrate on this line -- the line that sends chills down your spine once you decide to spend more than five seconds thinking about it.

Have you ever wondered what it must feel like married to the one you settled on? This truly gives me great feelings of anxiety. It might be difficult to accept the word "settle" because it conjures up images of quasi-happiness and half-hearted glee. Yes, there is some sort of satisfaction and perhaps, some feeling of security that can be derived from such a partnership but I wonder, could there be anything more? To settle is to ultimately accept what is within reach, what is available, what is there. To settle is to convince one's self that the decision about to be made is inevitable, realistic, and safe. To settle is to risk not ever being truly happy because one decides to adopt the worst type of bahala na attitude on life's greatest challenges. And settling is a sorry consequence of the passage of time. Yes, time can be the balm that soothes open, painful wounds in one's heart but it can also be that dark force that manipulates one's mind into thinking and believing that the choice one has made is the best choice... the only choice. What time does, and I'm sure you'll agree, is it lodges one's mind and heart in a cage with the door partly open -- with the promise of a better life losing its appeal over the reality of the present, the convenient, and the routine. Time also pressures one into selecting a suitor or spouse because 'wala nang iba' (there is no one else) and 'nagmamadali na ako' (I'm in a hurry) and there, 'puwede na rin.' (I'll make do).

The wickedness of "settling" is not one way. It also eventually hurts the one who was chosen because in all respects, the truth will surface. You no doubt realize that you just wasted each other's time and emotions. But then again, if your spouse chose you not because he or she "settled," then forget about the win-win situation you were gunning for.

Frankie (Ione Skye) delivered that line when she was deciding whether or not to do everything possible to win David Shrader's heart. David happened to be involved with someone else. He was attracted to Frankie but didn't really think it wise to split up with his girlfriend of three years on a limb. Very much unlike you and me, Frankie is very atypical of the Rules Girl. She went for David, bared her soul, and tried to convince him that he will only be happy with her. She then gave him the other great line in the movie to make him leave his girlfriend for her.

"Anything less than mad, passionate love is a waste of my time."

In the end, David left his girlfriend for Frankie and they lived happily ever after. Wow.

Many times, in my not too colorful past, I almost gave in to the urge to tell the boy I liked what I felt for him. In all those times, I opted otherwise for fear of my mother's wrath and, of course, embarrassment in case of rejection. I am scared of losing my precious dignity and pride in case he tells me that he only sees me as a friend. I'm sure you got through these exercises in your psyche too. Sometimes, our hearts win out over our brains when our certainty over the outcome is great. I try to espouse The Rules and very rarely make the first move. More often than not, I wait for the guy to call. Now you know that I'm one of those who walk the avenues of life on a sidewalk -- never off it.

Now, I'm starting to believe otherwise. I see the beauty in sharing your feelings with the one you love - not because you expect something in return but because life cannot be lived otherwise. It is a great, big step for an otherwise conservative, 'torpe' girl like you and me but if you think about it, it's the only way to go.

Richard Paul Evans' bestseller after The Christmas Box -- The Locket --tells us the story of a woman who fell in love with a soldier when they were both very young. They shared their feelings with each other and were very happy. Eventually, he went off to war and she married somebody else, thinking he wouldn't return to her. Years passed and they lived their separate lives -- he married and had a family while the woman's husband and son eventually succumbed to illnesses and died. She decided to wait for her soldier's wife to die before she came back to him -- because she didn't think it was right to complicate his life. The wait took more than sixty years until she eventually found the announcement of his wife's death in the obituary. By this time, the woman was already 80 and could barely walk. Sadly, by the time she managed to find her soldier to tell him she loved him, he was already senile. The woman eventually died a few days after seeing her soldier and perhaps going throught the most heart-wrenching experience in her life. She was too late.

The morals of the stories I have mentioned above are similar and almost connected to each other. Perhaps another book theme that we can tie into these is that line from The Bridges of Madison County -- "This kind of certainty comes but once in a lifetime."

I am of the belief that each person is given the chance to find his one true love as he goes about his life. Sometimes, the opportunity is not too obvious, especially for those who are content with their situation and therefore are not seeking "greener pastures." These times, the chance is often passed up. The luckier ones are those who are probably more clear-minded and in touch with their emotions because they can easily recognize what is staring them in the face. Whether this chance is passed up or not, I know that the feeling one gets when this chance is still within reach is one of certainty. Yes, it is also accompanied with feelings of danger, of risk, and of possible pain but compensating for this is that inexplicable "sureness," that sense of profound happiness that has never been derived anywhere else but from that one person who just happened to pass by in your tidy little life.

I've written in this space an article on The Rules and the benefits that can be reaped from patterning one's life after its teachings. I've been successful in convincing the people around me to use The Rules to their advantage. I know of some women who swear by The Rules because they married their man. Now I'm saying that there should be an escape clause somewhere for your own good.

Follow The Rules in your daily life but have the wisdom and the humility to recognize a gift from the heavens when it is given to you. I call true love a gift because of its rarity. It does not happen everyday. If you pass it up the first time, try not to be too arrogant to look away when it comes by the second time. You may ask me "how will I know if this is my true love?" My answer to that is this: true love is that strong, awesome feeling that scares the hell out of you but always makes you unbearably happy. It doesn't go away, no matter how much you will it to.

More than anything else, you'll know in your heart when you meet him that he is the one. He doesn't become the one the same way that soulmates do not become soulmates later in life. With him, you are damn certain that you are not settling. With him, you know that you will be sixty years old and never wondering about the one that got away because he never did. He's right there holding your hand.

Hormonal?

What's with me lately? I've been having a love affair with my credit card (three weeks so far!), swiping here and there for clothing, grocery, and home accessories! Just last weekend, I bought some "wants" for our home, in an effort to further prettify the place. I bought:

1. a new set of curtains,
2. a table cloth for our dining table,
3. three gilded faux fruits (pears and an apple),
4. a glass bowl to contain the fruits,
5. a fitted sheet to match our plum-colored pillows
6. a duvet filler
7. a white duvet cover (love the thread count hahaha!)

I almost bought a brand new dining table, and now I'm contemplating on buying a nice little painting as accent for our wall in the foyer. Oh, I also almost bought the stones for stone cladding the wall in our dining area, plus I'm also planning to have our sofa reupholstered (or at least have a slipcover, still in cream) as well as our dining chairs.

Goodness. This must stop noh! Am I just being hormonal or what?!?

Revenge time, my little princess! I caught her in the act... her trantrums galore!

She started out with a very nice mood...

Then things began to go sour...

She started "wagging" her arms...

Then doing the "nestea plunge"...

Then wagged her arms again...

Plus her legs...

Hahaha! She's too cute even in this kind of tantrum. I guess she just wanted me to pick her up because soon after, she was all smiles and giggles again.

Gash, I totally adore my child.

Fatty

Friends J and O put sense into my head during one of our chats and told me that I'm not fat and all. I finally agreed to them and shrugged it off. What the heck right?

Then, I saw this picture taken by Eanna's Nanny while my little angel was asleep in my arms.

Oh my goodness. I looked like a pregnant lady! Look at those big arms. Or are they thighs? Goodness gracious. Look at that tummy. Is it just the dress or did my love handles inflate yet again? Can somebody please give me a list of best diet pills in town so I can take them?

Ok, so I'm over-reacting. But still. I really am not used to seeing myself like that big. I'm used to me being called the reed-thin girl. My Aunt even called me Vannie-bones coz really, I used to be stick-thin. Now I looked more like a cow, for crying out loud. Is this a result of me doing some major overtime in our kitchen, concocting really rich meals? I can't help it, I love food!!!

*SIGH*

I guess I really have to do something about this. Our second honeymoon is a few months from now, and I really want to look smashingly sexy when dear husband comes home after his long hardwork onboard.

Kill this Laptop

Arrgh!!!! This freakin' old laptop is making me go ballistic! This used to run so smoothly, but now I have to wait forever in order for the programs to pop up whenever I click on their icons. I'm in the mood to surf and blog, but this lousy computer is irritating me like crazy! No wonder our office is giving the laptops we use right now for free (instead of putting them up for sale) and provide us the latest ones. I know, I'm asking for the stars here, because this notebook is already 5 years old. But still, I don't know why all of a sudden this old lady is getting lazier by the day. *Sigh* Maybe I'm just frustrated because for 2 1/2 years this has been my work (and blogging) companion. This has sentimental value, you know. Hahaha. But really, I can't wait till we receive our new ones.

Reworking My Kitchen

I just bought the third "book" of Real Home Ideas from Real Living magazine, and it just made me realize that there is so much more to be done in the little space we call home. Of course, with Enrique being away, I surely cannot handle the a major makeover of our pad, so I decided that should do I do some improvements, I have to choose which part of our unit will I do a makeover first. One thing I wanted was to cover the blank wall in our foyer area with stone, so that it becomes a stone wall. Aside from this, maybe I'm thinking of fixing our kitchen and dining area.

A month or so ago, I thought of reupholstering our dining chairs so that it becomes less "Asian-y" but of course I completely forgot about that (along with having slipcovers made for our sectional sofa). But anyway, now that I'm reviving my interest in beautifying our place (see, it really is a cycle... fashion, home, eanna clothes...). However, this is probably one of the major projects that I would prefer Enrique to be involved in. So what I want to do in the meantime is conceptualize what look I want for my kitchen, and at the same time make an inventory of cooking tools and equipment: what I always use, what I sometimes use, and what I rarely use or don't use at all. Next would be looking at my small appliacnes as well. I want to do this in order to do some spring cleaning: an uncluttered kitchen is probably the best canvas to work on. From there I'd know just how much cabinetry I would need in order to organize my kitchen.

I really love to cook, that's why I chose to work on our kitchen first. But I really have to do some planning and pantry organizing in the area so that preparing and cooking our meals would be easier. And at elast, when Enrique comes home and checks out our place (he does that, seriously!), he can see that this little area of mine is very well-maintained.

Pearls

Eanna's pearly whites are out! Two to be exact. I finally saw them peeking just this morning and I'm really excited for both to fully come out. I tried to take a picture but Eanna's just too playful right now she couldn't stay put. I was able to take a picture while she's sleeping but the pearls weren't that visible.

Anyway we're just waiting for the doctor to arrive. Eanna's due for her measles vaccine. Poor baby. She's very strong though. I hope she won't cry like crazy later!

Sleepless (Again!)

Well, actually, as always. I can't help but stare at this little angel beside me!

So while my little baby is fast asleep (2:30 am right now), I kept on thinking about Enrique (and his very very sweet and heart-felt email, among others). I feel so guilty, like I'm being such a "bad" wife. I can't wait to see my husband. I know that this time, when he comes home, these little drama effects will disappear. *Sigh*

Don't Know What To Do

Right now I feel so confused. A part of me wants to give in to Enrique’s emotional reply to me as response to my Drama-effect email (see! He really is becoming a Drama King, what a perfect pair!), but a part of me wants to be the stubborn bull that I am. I know, in the end it’s both of us who will sink our ship if we continue this emotion-draining waltz we are dancing right now. Maybe I should really reflect again and control my alter-ego. I am so in love with my husband and that I should be more understanding and all. But what about my feelings too? What’s really touching though is the way he appeals to me in his letter. Gash. What the heck is wrong with me? This is the man of my dreams, this is the love of my life. Why am I giving him (and myself) a hard time over some flimsy little misunderstanding?

Wake up Van. Buy yourself a set of tactical gear and play with your brothers (paintball or airsoft hehehe) in order to unwind, vent out your frustrations (KILL!!!!!!! Hahahaha), and move on. Geesh. Drama, drama, drama.

Ranting (Part II)

Up until now I haven't received the medicare advantage cards provided by dear husband’s company to their seafarers. You see, I have advised their office that the details in the temporary cards they have mailed us had errors, and that our address has changed as well. That was March. It is June already and still there’s no word as to when we will get the revised ones. I have called their office, but as what I have ranted in my other blog, it didn’t do well (at least on my part) because the person in charge wasn’t available and the one who received my call was too irritated to care (I seriously don’t know what’s up with her noh!).

Anyway, maybe I should follow this up again because the next time Enrik calls, I want to tell that I have dealt with it already.

Bare-naked

It's the second day that I didn't wear my wedding ring as a sign of protest brought about by dear hubby and I's little lover's quarrel. I know I know! The Drama Queen is back, but this time I'm so not feeling good about it. These two days felt like there's something missing and I felt so bare without my ring. I mean, it's just a ring right so I shouldn't be so overly attached to it. But seriously, I didn't, and still don't, feel good about it. What's wrong with me? I'm just making myself feel bad, noh? Gash, when will this end?

Drama, drama, drama.

Sunday Dinner

I had all the time in the world last Sunday, so I mustered all my courage and made Wild Mushroom Soup using the recipe of Barefoot Contessa. After that I did my own version of Shrimps with crab fat sauce. Hope you like it!

Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup (Barefoot Contessa)

5 ounces fresh shiitake mushrooms
5 ounces fresh portobello mushrooms
5 ounces fresh cremini (or porcini) mushrooms
1 tablespoon good olive oil
1/4 pound (1 stick) plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided
1 cup chopped yellow onion
1 carrot, chopped
1 sprig fresh thyme plus 1 teaspoon minced thyme leaves, divided
Kosher Salt (I only used regular salt hehehe)
Freshly ground black pepper
2 cups chopped leeks, white and light green parts (2 leeks)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup dry white wine (no more, no less!)
1 cup half-and-half
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup minced fresh flat-leaf parsley

Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a dry paper towel. Don't wash them! Separate the stems, trim off any bad parts, and coarsely chop the stems. Slice the mushroom caps 1/4-inch thick and, if there are big, cut them into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

To make the stock, heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter in a large pot. Add the chopped mushroom stems, the onion, carrot, the sprig of thyme, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper and cook over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, until the vegetables are soft. Add 6 cups water, bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes. Strain, reserving the liquid. You should have about 4 1/2 cups of stock. If not, add some water.

Meanwhile, in another large pot, heat the remaining 1/4 pound of butter and add the leeks. Cook over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, until the leeks begin to brown. Add the sliced mushroom caps and cook for 10 minutes, or until they are browned and tender. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute. Add the white wine and stir for another minute, scraping the bottom of the pot. Add the mushroom stock, minced thyme leaves, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Add the half-and-half, cream, and parsley, season with salt and pepper, to taste, and heat through but do not boil. Serve hot.

Shrimps with Crab Fat Sauce

Hmm... I hope my memory serves me right in recounting what I did!

1/2 Kilo de-shelled and de-veined shrimps (or prawns if you like!)
2 Tbsp olive oil
3 cloves chopped garlic (more or less)
Sprinkling of chili flakes
About 1 cup of crab fat (more if you like!)
Couple of leaves of Thai basil leaves - Chiffonade* it

Heat olive oil in a pan. Stir in the garlic and chili flakes. Add the shrimps and cook until slightly pink (don't overcook!). Add the crabfat sauce and cook for at most 2 minutes. Add the thai basil. Serve hot.

Pair with jasmine rice or use as pasta sauce. If to be used for pasta, add more crabfat and more olive oil.

Note: as per Wikipedia, Chiffonade is a cooking technique in which herbs or leafy green vegetables (such as spinach and basil) are cut into long, thin strips. This is generally accomplished by stacking leaves, rolling them tightly, then cutting across the rolled leaves with a sharp knife, producing fine ribbons.

The term comes from the French language. It means "made of rags" referring to the fabric-like strips that result in this technique.

*******
The output...

Yummy yummy. Believe me, the Mushroom soup is so worth the long preparation time. And the shrimps, my goodness. Heaven.

Enjoy!

Look at the Bigger Picture

The Bomb!

It used to be that people blog for fun, as instant updates for friends and family members who are away, and for their own sanity (like me hahaha). Funny how nowadays there are a lot of people interested in blogging in order to get paid. Like I mentioned before, I blogged since 2004 (blame it on my love for writing journals), and it's just recently that I have been introduced to earn while blogging. Since that time, a couple of people have asked me about it and to inform them of any new sites that are into blog marketing and blog advertising. Well dear friends, I have found yet another that is worth checking out, and it's called SnapBomb. I actually read about SnapBomb in a forum of a different "earn while you blog" site and good thing I checked it out. One thing I first noticed is how they simply explained the whole process, and how easy the registration is. Bloggers wouldn't even have to wait long for the approval of their blogs. There is a wide variety of opportunities that would fit in to whatever your blog's all about. The payout amount depends on what the system generated. A new blogger might find the range small but hey, if it is small then better take it because most likely other blog advertising sites would decline your blog.

So for those who are interested, this is definitely worth a try. Check it out guys!
