What We Had For His Bday

Sorry for the late post about this, but this was what we had for dear hubby's birthday...

Just a simple meal... no cakes, no ice cream. These are his top favorite food. I would have added sinigang but then that's too much already. So Sisig and Crabs were the final choices. Hahaha.

And I know, I know, what's his kid pic doing there? Well, just to remind us what and for whom this celebration is for. It was a last minute addition to our table set-up, and the only one very near us was his kid pic. Obviously, he looked like Eanna. Grrr.

Love you my darling!

Are You A Snob?

You Are A Little Snobby

And being a little snobby every once and a while is totally allowed.

Because if no one was ever snobby, no one would ever try to dress up or look pretty.

And while you do enjoy the finest things in life (that you can afford), you tire of superficiality.

You know there's more to life than what's just on the surface.

I was really looking forward to getting my own red Fidji Goyard bag up until I came across Chuvaness' post about her Goyard complaints. I checked my bag and indeed, the corners have peeled. Considering that these bags aren't that expensive, i really would expect more. *Sigh* It really is a big disappointment. But when I go to HK, I will check again and ask the shop about it.

At least it's more reason for me to give in to my "social consciousness" i have been feeling lately. You know, about putting on hold buying stuff like this bag. Oh well.

So I've Decided...

And it's a long weekend too!

Geesh, this week was a hectic one here at work, and us planners scrambled our brains for days, figuring out what what to do with the developments that will come with our expanding (though at first tightening) fleet.

But enough of work... Dear hubby's birthday is coming up, and much as I would like to just mope around because he won't be here, I can't do anything about that right? So I decided to just cheer up the household by having a special dinner... which will involve hubby's favorites... crabs, sinigang, (hmm... does that match?), and sisig! Hahahaha, very healthy eh? That's my hubby! Hehehehehe.

Anyway, it's 5:30 now, so I gotta go. Can't wait to play with my dear angel. Happy long weekend!

Near Accident Caused By A Chair

I was sleepy awhile ago, up until I sat and leaned on the back of my chair and I almost got toppled over! My Boss has warned me before about my chair here in my place, and he almost fell too when he sat on it (I was absent that time). I told him that it's just a matter of finesse, and that it knows its owner (hahaha). Well, I guess that's not the case anymore. As I looked around, I noted that my two other chairs in front of me have broken handles already. I knew about this but just shrugged it off. Now I realized that when our Admin has ordered some office furniture, I should have told them about these three chairs of mine. Well, better late than never. I should report this soon, else the near accident might soon be a real accident.

The Independent Kid

Yesterday, I was raving about my little girl taking a few steps before holding on to something. Last night however, her Nanny told me that she was walking by herself in the hallway, back and forth! I couldn't believe it buy then and there I witnessed her walking for a long time by herself! And when I tried to carry her, she moved as if she wanted to be put down. When I did and tried to old her hand, she took it out and walked without support. Honestly, i felt very happy for her achievement, but at the same time felt sad because that's one thing that she'd be independent of me already. *Sigh*
Well she ain't that gonna be independent... (Mother in denial hahaha). When she grows up I'd make sure her phone has a GPS system for me track her down anywhere, anytime. Sneaky Mom. Hahaha.

Ways to Surprise

Dear hubby just sent me a very "challenging" email, asking me if I'm ready because he's coming home soon. Hahaha. Sometimes it is really fun when we talk about these things, and afterward, it makes me think of ways on how to surprise my dear hubby... you know, a welcome present? Naughty naughty naughty!

Anyway, in truth, it always scares me whenever it's that time of the year (him coming home after months of hard work away from us). I start to get conscious and all. Hmm... maybe that's one of the reasons why I get so vain about my weight, my looks, everything. I even check if my "treat him" clothes are enough, or do I have to buy more women's lingerie. Hmm, maybe I should go to the mall and check out stuff. I have to prepare for our second honeymoon, you know!

Again, second honeymoon, but no babies first!

Hubby Goes To Florida

Dear hubby just told me that they went to Florida and they're now on their way to Europe again. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to buy the Macbook he so wanted. Poor him. But he told me that after Europe, they might sail again to Florida, and maybe by that time, he'd have a chance to go out and buy the laptop. He also told me that some crew have said that Florida is nice, and it would be a nice place to go to if ever we wanted to take a vacation in the US. Well, our relatives live in either California or in New York, but maybe we can do something about it. Orlando vacations seem interesting right? Maybe I can also ask my relatives from NY and Canada to come join us.

*Sigh*

Dream dream dream again. I surely hope this vacation plans will push through. Anywhere, as long as it will push through.

Sunday Lunch: Mussels

categories:
I would just like to share this recipe for the seafood lovers. Mussels in White Wine is totally divine.

I had this for lunch, with my favorite Squash soup (this time with curry powder!) and toasted sour dough with butter and garlic (to mop the juicy yummy liquid).

Musssels in White Wine
Ingredients:
1 kilo mussels (this will serve 2-3), washed and "de-bearded"
2 tbsps olive oil
2 tbsps butter (unsalted)
1 yellow onion, diced
6 cloves garlic
3 tomatoes, diced (or 1 can diced tomatoes, drained)
1 cup white wine
1/2 tsp saffron threads
1tbsp fresh thyme ( or 1/2 tbsp dried thyme)
1/3 cup Italian parsley
Salt and pepper to taste

In a pan, heat the butter and oil. Add the onions and cook until slightly transparent. Add the garlic and cook for around 2-3 minutes more. Add the tomatoes, then the wine. Add the thyme, parsley, saffron, just a pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.

Add the mussels and stir well, cooking for 8-10 minutes over medium heat, until all the mussels are opened. Remember to discard those that didn't. Cover the pan and shake the pot to make sure that the mussels don't get burned. Pour everything into a large bowl and serve hot.

Note: Barefoot Contessa's recipe is found HERE.

Next time, I'll try Nigella's Mouclade recipe from her boo Nigella's Express. Difference is that Mouclade has cream and curry in it. Will blog about it if its good!

Green Pan Cookware

This is my current obsession.

And I will not stop until I get hold of a set. As a summary:
  • Temperature resistance up to 450°C (850°F)
  • No toxic fumes are released if overheated
  • High Quality Non-stick
  • Durable and highly scratch resistant
  • 0% PTFE & 0% PFOA
  • Environmentally friendly production, significant reduction in CO2 emissions in production.

Our little angel is really growing up fast. She now walks on her own. A few simple steps, but still, on her own. She's becoming more independent now... She'll still be my little girl.

About the reading part... hehehe I wish! But I bought here these little books. She enjoys holding and looking at them. Hope she learns fast!

Goodness. One of our crew who recently came home commented that my physique looks better now since I gained a lot of pounds compared to the last time he saw me. Huhuhu. That means my weight gain was that noticeable. Ok fine, he thinks I look nice, and most of the crew who came home also said so. But I want to be thinner, you know, go back to my old weight! One more person to tell me I gained weight and I will take Leptitrex, aside from the exercise plan I have. Kidding aside, even if people tell me this weight suits me more, shall I just take their word and believe that, or shall I go on with my quest to shed a few more pounds? Hahaha, I sound like an anorexic girl (the mental aspect, ok). *Sigh* Maybe I'm just being sensitive and all. Red flag is coming already. Oh well.

Must. Exercise.

Enrique is coming home in a couple of months, and I really want to start exercising now. Aside from toning my body, I know that when he's here, he'd "force" me to exercise with him. I remember the time when he had to drag me to go to MOA and join the Sunday exercise thing in the park. He even shot a video of me; goodness I looked so weird and geeky, among other descriptions.

Anyway, I found this nice little shoes that would be my "partner in crime" for my "work-outs"

MBT shoes

I really find them soooo cute. Made for walking, running, and exercise, but still looks feminine. I really don't like those bulky rubber shoes (I never owned one, save for the high-cut Reeboks and Nike cross-trainers for school).

Can't wait to get them and start shaking my booty. Hahaha.

Gash, that sin called SLOTH is hitting me big time. But for "good" reasons though, since all I want to do is to be with my little girl. For us to just play, laugh, run after each other, dance, cuddle, eat, and all the good things every Mom and daughter can do.

I miss my little angel. Wanna go home now...

Sister's Loot

Can I just kill (joke) my sister? When I went to my parent’s place last weekend, she tried to make me envious by showing off the cool t shirts she bought during their recent trip to Hong Kong. Huhuhu, and she didn’t get any from me. Plus, that sneak even showed me more tops that she got (and still unused!) when she went to the US last November 2007. Now I can’t wait till our company’s trip to Hong Kong. I will shop till I drop (hahaha) and come home with envy-worthy shopping loot. Heck, they (my Mom and sister) have been tormenting me with their shopping stories, and come October, it’s payback time. Hahaha.

Grandpa's Condition

My Mom went to the province to visit our ailing Grandfather. I was supposed to go with them but due to “poor coordination” I was unable to do so. I have been wanting to visit him, especially since it was his birthday last August 2, and I just felt bad that I didn’t go last weekend. Anyway, my Mom hasn’t given me any updates, but I am just expecting that his condition is either the same or has worsened. When I called my Grandma, she told me that Grandpa is no longer eating (under IV now) and that he doesn’t want to talk anymore. Aside from that, he is also bedridden (thus only uses an adult diaper for nature’s call). I really don’t know how to take all of this, you know, when I see him in that condition. Much as I want to think positively, there’s still that growing fear of, you know. Ack. I don’t want to think about it. But I still pray for good health for Grandpa.

Marketing Strategies to Get Crew

Market condition in the shipping industry is proving to be getting more challenging by the day. Before, it is the demand’s market, but now, since there is very tight supply of seafarers, they have become choosy and most of the time, money and benefits talk. We have been coming up with different marketing strategies and promotional products that would entice people to join our company. I just hope that our strategies would work, because if not, my work would all the more become stressful. Sheeps, I no longer want to experience those sleepless nights thinking how to tell our crew that they cannot come home because they do not have a reliever.

Bad For The Skin

The weather has yet again changed and we are now experiencing clear skies. Well, for now. Because I’m sure that anytime, it would be rainy again. I’m just worried because, sorry to sound vain but, sometimes my skin cranks up because of these weather changes. I do not have an acne cream in our medicine chest and I dislike putting it on. I might as well get one though, just in case. I don’t want to welcome my dear husband (when he comes home) with a pimply face. Right now, I have a few dots – small but still there. Plus there are times when I wake up with red blotches in my face. Yeeps. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that those will be gone by the time hubby comes home.

Unsafe Streets

What’s with trucks lately? Every night, there seems to be news about trucks either hitting street pillars and island, or hitting cars and worse, people. I totally hate it when people die because they get hit by either trucks or buses, and drivers explain away by saying either they didn’t see the passengers or they fell asleep because of exhaustion or lack of sleep. I sure hope that the victims get immediate help. You know naman, here in our country, the “suspects” don’t go to jail, they just pay for either hospital fees and/or funeral services. Sheeps.

Dad's Watch

We're off to Serendra right now for dinner with our relatives who came from Toronto. Good thing my Dad clarified that we were going out, because I initially thought we'll just have dinner at our aunt's place. Earlier I was wearing a dress fit for dinner at home, so I managed at the last minute to dress up a bit, hehehe. When I went to the house, I remembered that my watch was here (I left it a week ago), but I decided to just borrow my Dad's leather watch to complete my look (green and brown dress, gladiator sandals). I liked what he lent me! Hmm, maybe I should borrow this for a longer period and not just today. It reminded me of the Festina watches I saw online before and wanted to get for myself.

Of course, my Dad's watch is better.

It's Confirmed!

Our company has announced that for our 10th anniversary celebration, all of the staff will go to Hong Kong for three days! Now I just can't help but think that it's a blessing in disguise that I was unable to go with my family (though this would have been more enjoyable) the last time. At least this one is for free... Hahaha! Anyway, one of the measures of our company when it comes to travel, aside from having travel insurance for all staff, is that we will travel in two batches, one to go via Cebu Pacific, one via PAL. To be fair, draw lots will be used to determine who will ride in what lane. I really really hope I'd get PAL. I don't want to ride in Cebu Pacific. I don't know, I just feel more comfortable riding in PAL planes, force of habit I guess.

I'm very very excited ever since it was announced! My only regret though is that dear hubby won't come with me (strictly for staff only). One plan though is he follows on Sunday, then we stay until Tuesday...Hmmm. We'll see. Exciting!

You Are A Relationship Rescuer!

You don't ruin relationships, if anything you keep them together

The key: you respect yourself and your guy. Which goes further than you might think.

You simply treat your guy how you would like to be treated... the old golden rule.

And in return, he treats you like gold - or at least tries. And how perfect is that

A Very Special Love

This is my favorite local movie so far.

Thanks to John Lloyd Cruz! Hehehe, ok it's not only because of him, although it largely is because of him. The movie is a really nice feel-good movie with lots of kilig moments, scenes that would surely bring you back to the time when you are a teener, very hopeful and optimistic about love. Well, I still am, though, even though I'm no longer in my teens (age doesn't matter though!). The plot is very simple, but it is stranegly appealing and for me, even better than the other local movies that try hard to make the plot so intricate but leaves a lot of loopholes.

The acting of Sarah Geronimo is just superb, very natural. I have read in other reviews that she was over-acting in the film, but I strongly disagree with that. There's one scene played over and over the TV (part of the trailer) that I at first thought she was OA (the part when she said "Sir, gaano ka-close?") and got a little turned off with her acting. But in the movie, that OA-effect was that, just OA-effect, because that scene in question is actually just part of the bigger scene. Spolier: it's just a daydream. That scene was actually funny. Note, I admit I'm a fan of Sarah, but Sarah as the singer. Now though, I like her too, as an actress. More is in store for her. She's very blessed indeed!

Now for John Lloyd... my Rovic... Nyahahaha. I was giggling like crazy I almost forgot that I'm married. Hahahaha. Seriously, his acting is good, as always. The movie maximized the fact that he is very good-looking, very handsome, very charming, and all the positive very's anyone can describe a guy.

I left the movie house with a smile on my face. From ear to ear. And I'm 100% sure I'm not the only one who did.

Option A: Don't go to work
Option B: Take a cab (and take the risk of not getting one either going to work or going home)
Option C: Go to work early.

Guess what option I took?

... Our balcony has been battered by the storms! Poor herbs, poor plants, and poor furniture! Good thing I resisted buying some outdoor stuff, because these too would have been bombarded by the wind and rain. I thought of getting patio furniture covers but maybe that's a little too extreme a measure. Besides, our balcony is small anyway, and our "furniture" isn't really that grand. Hahaha. I just hope that our batibot chairs will withstand this season.

Because of the continuous rain showers and cloudy skies, our helper has complained that she cannot dry our clothes properly. Though we have a washing machine that also serves as a dryer, one of our "rules" to save energy / electricity is to minimize use of certain equipment, such as turbo broilers, dryers, and even aircons. However, because of our rainy season, we might be compelled to use our dryer, else our clothes would smell a little "different," if you know what I mean. Hopefully, the sun starts to shine again.

I'm talking about my family's trip to Hong Kong last week. You know, that trip that I looked forward to, only to find out that I couldn't join them because of our office seminar. Which, because of my extreme allergy I was unable to attend anyway.

Ok, stop the ranting and on with the topic. They had a huge blast, and I was really jealous of the bags that my Mom and my sister bought. Mom got a tan Jeanne Goyard, while dear sis got herself an LV Damier Salea. What they were too happy about was their loot from H&M. They bought almost anything and everything sold, except of course men's jewelry because my Dad wasn't into those things. Sis got around 5 rings (one I just had to get) among other accessories. They got me a nice little black clutch, plus shoes and a skirt for our strawberry shortcake. Now I really can't wait till dear hubby and I go there. Again, I wish by that time he'd be bitten by the shopping bug, so he won't mind it that we spend the whole time shopping like crazy.
