Blog Me?

The other day, my friend Liv was a bit exasperated when she learned that she couldn't access blogs (including hers) in blogger from her office. She was delighted however to have learned about Wordpress, and so she imported all her blog entries to her blog's new home.

She insisted that I use Wordpress as my blogs' "mirror site" so that she could still read my ramblings and thoughts. Somewhere along our conversation, we have thought of one question...

Why Blog?

Why are we so into the whole blogging thing? When we tried to rationalize our blogging craze, we initially had one word in common to describe this art of self-expression:

Therapy.

To blog or journal-writing, at least for me, is a therapeutic tool I have been using since the first time I have discovered my inner desire to express myself through words. I recall that I had numerous notebooks filled with my pre-teen ramblings, frustrations, dreams, desires, secrets, prayers, hexes (just kidding), etc...

Though I have forgotten to write for a couple of years, my desire to express my thoughts came back to life when I learned of online journals. I immediately subsribed to these blogsites. At first, I felt a bit uneasy using it, especially if the topics I wanted to write about are a bit sensitive. After all, aren't journals supposed to be secret memoirs, tucked under our pillows or stashed in some sort of secret compartment, complete with lock and key? Using online journals, instead of keeping your most private thoughts and (and in my case, biatchiest rants), exposes not only your milestones and momentous events and happy thoughts. It also exposes your most vulnerable side, your irrational and dirtiest (or skankiest) thoughts, and the evil side in you (that is, if you are completely open to writing everything).

However, I still chose to use blogs, because first, I couldn't shake off my old habit of journal-writing, and second, online journals are more accessible (hey, I am in front of the computer almost the whole day!).

At first I was a bit conscious on what I wrote about, then later on all out self-expression. As people started reading my blog, and a few even commented on what I have written, I realized that I enjoyed blogging because I felt I was connecting with the readers, with my friends, with my chatmates. I felt that this was a way of keeping each other updated on how we are, a way of disclosing (with or without knowing it) our own personalities entry by entry. And everytime people commented, I felt that I wasn't alone with my feelings or emotions I felt while writing about a certain topic, whereas in private journals, though I have blurted everything in writing, I was still alone, and it's only me who comforts myself.

Ghosts of The Past

Last night I had coffee with my former officemate from my first employer. It was a pleasant surprise that he sent me a text message early that day, given that prior to him sending me one, I was thinking about my former company and how my good ol’ friends were.

Anyway, it was a really nice meet-up. We talked about our current disposition in life (him married, yet on the rocks, me engaged to be married), work stuff, and of course, my past…

There were so many things that happened to me, pleasant and unpleasant, back then. Some proved to be very vital and good decisions, and a few that still haunted me up until yesterday.

Maybe that chance coffee break me and my friend had was one of God’s way of telling me to finally let go of the ghosts of my past that kept on haunting me. I have always thought that all misfortunes that happened to me afterwards were some sort of punishments that I deserved, because of the wrongs that I did. Maybe yesterday was God’s way of telling me that in those times He has never forsaken me, but I instead interpreted my misfortunes the wrong way.

Last night I was finally enlightened, especially when my friend told me that all the decisions and actions I took, which I thought were really bad decisions, were actually good decisions at that time. I was young and vulnerable and immature back then. Today, I’m still relatively young, quite confident, and… immature still (Enrique and I had that same thought when we talked early this morning about what transpired last night, hahaha).

This comment by my friend made me realize that I had to accept all that has happened to me, learn from my experiences, and let go. I told my friend that all the experiences I had made me all the more appreciate things, like the concept of marriage and love between husband and wife. Our conversation made me appreciate all the more the kind of love Enrique gives me. This morning I poured my heart out to Enrique, and told him how blessed I feel simply because he loves me.

Overall, it was really very enlightening to talk to my friend again. At least we have seen how far we have gone and achieved, both professionally and personally.

I really really want to buy a watch for Enrique for our wedding, but due to financial limitations for now, I guess this has to be put on hold.

This is what I planned to buy for him.

But ultimately, when we become successful in our respective careers (he as a Master Mariner, me as a loving housewife hehehehe), I want to give this to him...

Things I Live By

Last week I bought the latest issue of Marie Claire Philippines, and I found this issue very interesting! I was especially inspired by the cover issue story “Things Eula Valdez Lives By,” that I decided to come up with my own list of things that I do live by.

Aside from living the 10 Commandments and the Christian/Catholic Teachings, here is my list, covering various aspects of my life and my interests:

The Golden Rule: “Do Unto Others What You Want Others To Do Unto You”
This rule is similar to Jesus’ saying, but on a different manner: “Don’t DO Unto others What You Don’t Want Others To Do Unto You.” As much as I can, I try to live by this rule. Of course, I’m only human and I do commit mistakes, but at least I am conscious of what I try to live by.

Love With All Your Heart, Mind, and Soul.
I can’t explain, but I live by this. Regarding romance… well… I believe that romance should always be present between husband and wife. I hope that 50 or more years from now, I can still see in Enrique’s eyes that same spark and loving and intense look I see right now.

Never Spread False Rumors Against Someone
This is actually part of the 10 Commandments. My “sin” here is probably to rant about what I have actually experienced with that person. So I guess that’s not spreading false rumors right? Hahahaha.

Eat and be Merry. Respect the Food in Front of You.
I don’t like the notion of lunch meetings. Come on, respect the food that you’ve been blessed. Whenever I eat, I savor the experience and the taste of the food. And I don’t eat as if there’s no tomorrow. I just eat with gusto…

Attune To Nature as Much As Possible.
I don’t know, but I feel so attuned with nature. I love communing with our Mother Earth. It gives me that feeling of a presence higher than us.

Don’t Love Your Work, Just Be Interested and Enjoy It.
Some people have the tendency to overwork themselves, therefore their work somehow rule their life. But not for me. Like what I say… it’s only work. The worst that can happen is you’ll get fired.

Have Your Own Personal Space.
That’s why I keep this personal blog of mine. I try to be one with my family (or husband and kids), without losing myself or my identity as a person.

Keep The Faith
So many cynics in this world. So many people thinking that there is no meaning in life. I had so many trials in life that there were times I felt like letting go. But I choose to keep my faith and believe that there is a higher purpose of which mankind may not comprehend, but still, there is.

Education is Very Important.
Learn Something New Always. This is one thing I hope my future children will also live by. I may not be considered a really smart or talented person, but I always try my best to learn something new and enhance the talents and knowledge I have.

Quality Over Quantity.
Be it food, fashion, friends. I may have a small set of friends, but I know I can rely on them anytime. For items, to have high quality might cost more, but for me it’s better. Example, I may own few clothes and accessories, but I know these are investment pieces and will last for a long time.

Never Buy Pirated, Imitation, Fake Items
Yes, this is a no-no for me. Not for pride’s sake, but hey, if I were an artist or a designer for that matter, of course I would like to earn the fruits of my labor.

Like I said earlier, I'm only human and may commit mistakes, but at least I know my personal beliefs and tenets in life, and as much as I can, try to live by these.

Tamed Hair

The crow turned white yesterday, and so I went to (gasp!) the parlor and had my hair cut. This was after much prodding by my officemate last week for me to cut my hair and have a hair spa.

I'm not really a parlor person, and if there are parts of my body that I gave up on, these are: my skin (save for my face), my jiggly thighs, and my hair.

Yup, everyday is a bad hair day for me. I tried to control it, but it seems to have a mind of its own. Last year though, I had my hair rebonded, and it looked so fabulous. Well, up until my hair started growing. And so the curly side lorded over again. Not to mention the split ends that erupted due to the rebonding process. I never had split ends, even though my hair was mostly dry and frizzy all the time... Well actually, the hair specialist told me that my hair was oily, but my scalp is the one that's dry.

So anyway, there I was in the parlor, and the funny thing was, I was more focused in reading the InStyle mags than my hair being cut hehehe. The stylist recommended that I get a hair spa. I at first didn't like the idea as I was in a hurry, but succumbed to the idea because honestly, I felt that my scalp is really irritated. I was just drawn aback upon seeing the total cost of my salon trip. Gasp! But hey, it's only once in a blue moon that I enter the world of Parlor Planet, so might as well indulge a bit.

Dang Credit Card!

My day was going so well, up until I called up my credit card company (CC) to inform them I have faxed them my certificate of employment (COE). ARGH!

Background
Early this year, I have advised the CC that I transferred to another company, and that my bill should just be sent to my home address. They informed me that i needed to send them a COE for them to verify and update my records. I totally forgot about it, since I rarely use that card.

I did however get to use it last April.

Yesterday, I called up the CC to ask when my cut-off date was, because my Mom planned to buy her shoes using my credit card. The CC phonebanker informed me the date, and again told me to fax my COE asap or else my card will be temporarily put on hold. I asked why the COE was still needed, and isn't my reporting enough. That guy attendant told me (and I think it was bad taste) that when I first called last February, I asked the same questions, and so he'll tell me again that it's their policy. I was quite shocked by this and a bit irritated, but I obliged to send it to them the next day (today).

Today, I faxed to them my COE. They told me yesterday to call up after 30 minutes after sending it to them. So that's what I did, and here's what happened...

They said they have received the COE and will update my records. In the meantime, my card will be put on hold, and I have to call after 5 banking days to confirm whether it's reactivated or not.

Hello?!?!?!?!

I was a little irritated again because first of all, they wouldn't know I transferred to another company if I didn't call them in the first place! I told the person that had I not reported to them last time, I wouldn't be inconvenienced this way. And that sh!t about putting my card on hold? Duh, I have used my card last April, so it means they just remembered putting it on hold only yesterday. I'm irritated because I called up yesterday and asked about cut-off dates because, like I said earlier, my mom wanted to buy these shoes that was on sale and wanted to use my card for it (for the installment and all... Yeah, it's on sale but still expensive). I told the person just that, that I called because I wanted to buy something after the cut-off date. But no... She insisted that my card is on hold till approved. ARRGH!

And what's this thing about me calling up after 5 days for me to know whether the card's reactivated (meaning their credit evaluator approved it) or not... as if I owe it to them that they gave me this stupid credit card, of which most of the time I had zero balance anyway (currently that's my balance, I promptly pay in full). How arrogant can they be! I just got that card so that if I wanted to buy designer items, I could pay these in installments (3 months) with no interest, so I don't have to shell out the cash immediately. Anyway, in short, they put it on hold, they should be the one to call.

And like I said, I wouldn't be in this position if I didn't report to them I transferred to another company. Geesh. My honesty was returned by this sh!t from them. It's so funny, the person even told me it's just rare that people call them up and tell them their changes. If that is so, then I deserve more than this! I was so tempted to just say... "Why don't I just cut my credit card account because you guys are so freaking arrogant to think I owe you guys this card, after what I did?" You know, arrogance be dealt with by arrogance.

I am really nice and cordial to customer service personnel, but when I sense that they are putting me in a bad situation, I really get a little bia-tchy and all. So now, if tomorrow I'm still ticked off by what happened, I might as well cut that card.

Seriously, I don't need it anyway.

2nd Anniversary

Today is our 2nd anniversary, and though the day started with a little sad thought (you know, that we should be together today), it brightened up when I received a dozen red long-stemmed roses from Enrique!

Anyway, wow... We've been together for only 2 years, but we are getting married this December. Some people thought that we were together for a long time, and they were surprised when they learned that we have "just begun." Some people also thought that we're way too fast when it comes to marriage, but others thought it's just right.

It would have been really ideal that he's here so we could celebrate our special day, but then of course, that's just wishful thinking. But I'm really glad that Enrique never fails to make his presence and love felt. *Sigh*

As usual, my usual daily morning dose of personality quizzes...

Your Eyes Should Be Green

Your eyes reflect: Striking attractiveness and danger

What's hidden behind your eyes: A vivid inner world

You Are A Poplar Tree

People tend to look up to you, and it's a bit lonely at the top.
Inside, you are not always self confident, but you show great courage.
Mature and organized, you are reliable in any situation.
You tend to have an artistic or philosophical outlook on life.
You are very choosy in love and take partnership seriously.

What Your Soul Really Looks Like

You are quite expressive and thoughtful. You see the world in a way that others are blind to.

You are a very grounded, responsible, and realistic person. People may not want to hear the truth from you, but they're going to get it.

You see yourself with pretty objective eyes. How you view yourself is almost exactly how other people view you.

Your near future is calm, relaxing, and pretty much what you want. And it's something you've been anticipating for a while now.

For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn't fall in love with someone you didn't trust.

I've Bagged it!

I had dinner with my two girl friends last Friday night in Greenbelt, and prior to our dinner, I decided to just drop by Greenbelt 4 and take a look at Louis Vuitton. When i met up with my friend, for some reason I wanted to go back to Gucci, and so we did. Lo and behold! The bag that I wanted to buy a week before was suddenly there! I asked why there was suddenly a stock of what I wanted, and the attendant told me that it was reserved when I went there, but the person didn't come back for it. Well, it wasn't exactly the color of the leather trim that I wanted (I wanted the orange one, but the one available was beige), but at least the style is. Talk about being really meant for me! Hehehehe...

So I went back for it during the weekend, after talking to Enrique about it. Geezh... is it really like this, that I have to "ask permission" from him when it comes to purchasing luxury items?

But anyway, I finally bought it, and I am really so happy with this splurge. I mean, I kinda deserve it, after 6 months of really hard work. *Sigh*

So, what were my previous luxury purchases? Maybe I should recall them, so that i would have an idea what my next splurge would be and when this should happen. Hehehe. I want to save, you know...

1. Gucci bag (most recent)
2. 2 pairs of citizens of humanity jeans (expensive, but they're the best jeans!)
3. Juicy Couture terry tube dress (thanks SJP for wearing it in SATC)
4. Ferragamo flats (so very dainty!)
5. Anne Klein pumps (my favorite pointy toe pumps that show off some toe cleavage... sexy!)
6. La Mer Face cream (tried it once, it's ok... I prefer the next item...)
7. SK-II Facial Essence Treatment (so true when people tagged it as "miracle water")
8. Annick Goutal Au d'Hadrien (lovely fresh scent. Next target is Mandragore)
9. Longines Dolce Vita Watch (my first splurge hehehe)
10. Engagement ring (err.... wasn't my splurge, but I just wanted it to be in my luxury item list!)

That's it... see... I'm not really a splurgy type of shopper. Haha!

S is for SPIRAL

Last night, I had dinner in Spiral at Hotel Philippine Plaza, together with my boss and the attendees of our conference for captains and chief mates. All I can say is.... WOW.

The buffet was huge! There were so many stations having different cuisines of various countries, that I didn't know where to begin: Mongolian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Mediterranean. Then of course, the grilling station, the sushi bar, the cold seafood station, the salad bar, the dessert bar, etc... So I first had my usual appetizers, which was sushi, and cold seafood: crabs and oysters. I was however a bit disappointed because they didn't serve rock lobsters, which I always looked for and binged on whenever I eat in any hotel's buffet.

After the appetizer, I went straight on to the main courses, and my boss was totally amazed at how much food I ate, that this morning while we were discussing some plans, he just suddenly commented... "you have a huge appetite, where does the food go?" Hahaha. Well at least I eat with poise hehehe.

Anyway, I tried almost all cuisines, and felt a little "sad" when I wasn't able to try on some Mongolian food. My gastronomic exercise ended with me eating about 5 types of french cheeses, together with some grapes and strawberries. Yum yum! I ordered some wine to go with it, but the waitress forgot to bring me one... Oh well..

I was still feeling a bit hungry that time, but then I was the only one left eating. Dang.

I was also amazed at how much food I ate, and I just reasoned out that this was due to being starved since March because of my braces. Seriously, eversince I had my braces, I slept with a hungry stomach.

Anyway, the gastronomic experience was really, well, gastronomic and satisfying, and I can't wait till Enrique comes back so we can go back to our usual habit of pigging out in buffets (or in Dampa). I'm sure he'll want to try Spiral, especially if he finds out that they have chicken feet dimsum in the buffet.

Does the Devil Wear Prada?

Yes, "She" does!

Well, according to the book (and now a motion picture) "The Devil Wears Prada."

I read the book when it was released last 2004. It was still relatively unknown here, and the only place where it was being sold was in Fully Booked (that was the time I first saw it). It was a really fun read, and I could just sympathize with Ahhh-ndrea, as she is being tormented by the editrix Miranda Priestly. The unreasonable orders of Miranda are fun to read but then sometimes I can’t help but think... "Ok, I get the point! She really is a devil!"

However after reading it, I knew that the book will be a hit. I mean, who wouldn't be intrigued by the catchy title and the cover illustration?!? True enough, 2005 saw the invasion of the book... hoards of books piled in different bookstores, at cheaper prices. I'm sure every fashionista in town got a copy of this amusing book.

I wasn't really surprised when news broke that there will be a motion picture version. I can’t wait to watch the movie! Now it will even more amusing to watch Andrea struggle and Miranda whip and claw her. I do hope that Meryl Streep will portray the evil Miranda (some said she was patterned after Vogue's Ana Wintour), and I can't wait to see how Anne Hathaway will act as Andrea Sachs. I also look forward to seeing the fashion guru Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci. And of course... the other character in the film... FASHION (c/o Sex and the City's Patricia Field)!

The Quest for the Right Bag

Last weekend I dropped by Greenbelt 4 to buy the bag I have been salivating for lately... Nope, not the LV Batignolles, but a simple Gucci bag. I wanted this bag eversince I saw someone carrying it. When i finally decided on buying one... wahhaaaa! It was out of stock! And since I wanted the bag with the tan-orangey leather trim, the Gucci person told me he's not sure if it will ever be reproduced. Wahaaa!

I wanted to go to LV and check out how much the Batignolles was, but then I had to leave since the agreement was for my family to drop me off and wait for me, before going to Powerplant.

And so I got a little depressed, which is weird because I wasn't really a "bag lady." But for some reason, for the past few weeks, I have been pining over luxury bags. And since now that I was recently regularized at work, my yearning to give myself a luxury piece grew all the more.

Anyway, if my budget will not be stretched that much, my alternatives are:

Chloe: via net-a-porter

I love these Autumn/Fall 2006 Bags! Look at the buttery leather! However, they are not available yet, and I think buying this will really be a streeetch...

And yet another one... from the pre-fall collection

Now from Louis Vuitton...

I first thought of buying an LV last year, when I saw this bag carried by a chic Singaporean in, well, Singapore. I was shocked however by how much it cost, given that this bag was a bit small. But hey, that's LV right?

Now that I have reason to splurge a bit, I am contemplating on getting it. But then, I also like the Batignolles as it is roomy...

And this Pleaty Bag too...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Anyway, I thought of other reasons why to splurge now than later....

1) Enrique cannot stop me from buying one, since we're not yet married. Hehehe.
2) Even if Enrique won't stop me, I will probably lose interest since I would be more focused either in saving or in purchasing household furniture.

Sigh... Now I'm beginning to think again...To buy or not to buy... But still, the quest is still on!

"Regularized!"

Effective 1st July 2006, I am considered a regular employee of our company! Our General Manager (my boss) and Regional Director told me the good news late last week, and though I was quite confident that I will be "regularized," it still felt really good when it was confirmed.

Both told me that my performance was above their expectations, and there weren't really any major negative issues that they can tell me to improve on. That really was a big boost to me, considering the hardships and challenges that I faced in the first 6 months. Our Regional Director apologized that my training was fast-tracked as they needed me full-time, but was still happy that I was able to address the challenges quite well. He said that at first a couple of people were quite "against" taking me for the job, considering that I, according to their standards, am still too young (and a young woman) and "inexperienced" for the job. Good thing I proved otherwise, and so they were really happy that they made the right decision to get me. :-D

Now to the salary part... Hmm... I was expecting something higher (all of us do upon regularization right?) but I was glad to know that I received the maximum percentage increase. I still think I should've received more, but maybe I'll just prove to them my worth.

Anyway, I promised them that I will still continue doing my job the best I can. Dang, I "love" this job.

This course, though I took it last 2002, was still a blast! As usual, the safety boots didn't fit me, so the instructors had to put some cloth inside the boots so they won't be that loose on me.

That's me holding the nozzle for the mechanical foam hose!
