Apartment Therapy is one of my favorite interior design blogs, and I am very pleased to know that there will be a book featuring small spaces... perfect for our little home!

It's coming out on May 11 in the US, and hopefully these will be sold locally. If not, well, hello Amazon.com right? It might be more expensive, but really, I have to have one. Imagine, a book of Apartment Therapy? Gotta gotta have!

More info about the book HERE.

There were no tracing or those tools to draw. His model was just his Optimus Prime Robot.

He really has talent. I guess Lego playing earlier on helped.

I'm just amazed. And Proud. Love you my dear nephew!

Thoughts on Materialism

categories: ,
It is late at night again, and usually this is the time when I think about my day, what I have learned, what the future will hold. And since I am still in front of the laptop, my thoughts are translated here, hahaha.

Encounters with family, relatives, and other people (personally or in the blogosphere/twitter-verse or what have you), oh plus discussion with my husband has made me realize things and all the more convinced me about my new take on material ambition/gain and leading a simpler life, by choice.

In the past I encountered such group of people who talked about nothing but what they had, what they have, and what they plan to buy. That was way back in college, and maybe in those times they thought it was cool to compare notes about their material inventory. I didn't want to be stuck in that group ("So, what watch are you wearing when you play golf?" "Oh, for golf I use my Santos but for everyday, the Pasha."), and so I left even if staying meant a ticket to high society. It was simply not my thing. Sure, our family lived a comfortable life after coming from humble beginnings, and though maybe I was exposed to this world, I was not that exposed. It's not like we're uber-rich anyway!

Zoom in to my life then as a young woman with a striving (and later on blooming career). I remember the time when I would save money just to buy my Wendy's baked potato after office. Then I remember the first 8k pair of shoes I bought. My quest for material things as well as exquisite gastronomic experiences and actually succeeding, to me, were signs of how far I've gone. My, from that Wendy's satisfaction, I sure did come a long way.

There were downs too, by the way. I have experienced being in debt (credit cards maxed and paying only the minimum), having my phone temporarily put on hold, and such things. These however were the result of the "I now work, I earn, and I want to buy everything!" mentality. Thank goodness I grew out of that phase immediately.

My career soared, and so did my standards (which were a bit high already to begin with). I rarely bought things such as bags and shoes, but these "few things" were rather expensive items. By the way, they are still with me, so no buyers remorse there. This was the phase in my life when I began to realize that I do not need so much, and quality is definitely more important than quantity. I was in the blissful zero-debt heaven plus a time deposit account to boot. What's more, I had my designer items, traveled, and experienced gastronomic heights. Without of course forgetting my love for Wendy's baked potato and my Samurai Food's Takoyaki.

Then I got married. And everything changed. I had my little angel and things changed all the more. Time and again I am being reminded by some of my crazy move to quit working and focus on being a home-maker. But then I realized, I have already experienced what it was like to be successful, to get what I want. Now, I want to experience life in a different path. I wanted to live a simpler life, free and detached from material yearnings. I was happy because I had what I wanted. I now wanted to experience happiness by wanting what I have.

I am no hypocrite though, sometimes I trip, and sometimes the temptation is just too great (yes, I do check out admin job search from time to time). There are times when I feel bad and ask myself why I turned away from an opportunity for me to satisfy all my cravings, but I thank my husband primarily for reminding me always what is important. And I really want a simpler life, a life of love, giving, and serving. Receiving is a blessing along the way.

I think this really will become a good experience for me to become a better person.

Like now, I have encountered some budgeting and financial bumps, but my goodness, what a feeling, the sigh of relief upon realizing that it's not so bad after all, and I just needed to do some few things and sacrifice others too.

Good experience, I say, because at least I know that in the future when real money comes in, hopefully I will be almost free from such attachments. Maybe this will be transferred though to my daughter hahaha. Kidding. But yup, I guess my time has passed already. But seriously, there are other things that I think of too, and it has more to do with giving and reaching out.

I may continue to talk about what catches my eye, the next it bag, what's in fashion, and good food - after all, these are what interests me. But at least I know I will not feel bad nor feel compelled to buy anything, because I will be happy with what I have and will have. There's a word right? Contentment. Not the "hanggang dito na lang ako" type of contentment. More like, truly happy with the life I have, the life I chose.

And besides, I also wanted to prove to my husband that I can do it, not because I a forced to but again because I wanted to. No more jokes and comments like "Divisoria? There's no Tyler there" or "Let's go, I know na ginagalis ka na" and also this "I didn't want to bring you or suggest this place kasi alam kong gagalisin ka dun."

(Part II later on)

Playing To Learn

In order to design a curriculum that teaches what truly matters, educators should remember a basic precept of modern developmental science: developmental precursors don’t always resemble the skill to which they are leading. For example, saying the alphabet does not particularly help children learn to read. But having extended and complex conversations during toddlerhood does. Simply put, what children need to do in elementary school is not to cram for high school or college, but to develop ways of thinking and behaving that will lead to valuable knowledge and skills later on.

This is a part of the article my cousin shared and can be found here: Playing To Learn by Susan Engel which explains and gives an idea on how kids should be taught, something that points towards the Progressive method of teaching.

For mommies out there, this really is a good read!

Buffet Just Before the Holy Week

categories:
I know, know, it may be too much, but my dear BFF invited me for a lunch buffet in Escolta at the Manila Peninsula.

I took the opportunity too because we're not gonna see each other for at least two weeks because of her hectic travel schedule. Besides, it's been a long time since I had a good buffet hahaha.

Anyways, food was really good, but as usual I didn't get all that were served. I zoomed in on the following:

  • Appetizers: smoked salmon, prosciutto, smoked tuna
  • Seafood: Lobsters, crabs, fresh oysters (I eat them with lemon juice and Tabasco... LOVE)
  • Japanese corner: Tuna Sashimi
  • Soup: Tom Yam Soup
  • Peking Duck and Veal Sausage
  • Cheese: Goat, Manchego, Emmenthal, Sage Cerby, Gruyere
I felt so bad that I didn't get to try the Prime Rib Roast Beef (they ran out of it, and they only served the new one when it was closing time already). *GASP* Unbelievable, right? Oh well.

I know, I didn't *maximize* the gastronomic feast that was in front of me that time, but it's ok. I'm happy with what I've got. Imagine, three big rounds of seafood galore. Enough for me to feel like I'm in heaven (but oh my, the need for adipex in return!). Hahaha.

There was one unfortunate incident though, but nah I don't want to spoil my post. But here's a hint... If I wasn't with my friend and the food was just so-so, I really would have bitched about it.

*Wink wink*

Beauty Loot List

categories: , ,
It's been a while since I last bought some beauty loot and though I have "broken" my Abstinence vow of not buying anything for personal use (bags, clothes, cosmetics, etc), I still chose not to dive in and buy for my major kikay kit revamp.

But here's my list/collage about stuff I hope I could get...

As to the lipsticks... it really depends on the budget left hehehe. But I'm hoping I'd get the Coco Rouge though I haven't personally tried it. The other two, I did already. I love the Revlon Colorstay liquid lipstick in Top Tomato. And yeahps, gotta buy those creams. My face is flaking. And my Olay Total effects touch of foundation is really dark on me (after refusing to think that).

Anyways, that's all for now!

Luggage Needed!

categories:
I just came home from watching Alice in Wonderland with my sister, brother, and nephew, and though a lot of people said they didn't like it, I quite enjoyed the film. Anyway, aside from the movie, sister and I have been talking non-stop about our upcoming Singapore trip with my Mom. We're excited already! I told her the "itinerary" I made so far:

Day 1: Clark Quay
Day 2: China Town, Orchard Rd, Night Safari
Day 3: Vivo City, Sentosa
Day 4: Merlion and "Raffles area"

My only concern now is that I still do not have luggage to use. See, I used to travel frequently but I took advantage of the fact that my Dad had spare luggage. Now, my Mom and sister will borrow from him, and that will probably leave me with nothing. Of course, I will not use a shipping box for the goods I'd be bringing home (uh-oh, did I say that?) so I better take a look at my options. Cheapest I guess is the luggage of Kamiseta (now with black and white colors), which I was supposed to buy two years ago for our HK trip (but didn't... borrowed from Dad that time hehehe).

We'll see. Don't want to use my hubby's spare luggage. It's as big as me. Or if not, I can fit inside. Hahaha.

Earthquake!

That was one bad-ass and freakishly long earthquake awhile ago. I was in front of my laptop on my bed when suddenly my bed shook. I knew it was an earthquake so I ran out and saw my pendant lights moving like crazy. Went to Eanna's room and got her. Her lights were moving as well. We went out and and stayed in our living area. Seconds have gone by but the quaking was still quaking and doing its own thing.

Shets, praning-ness to the max, I tell you. I mean, we live in a condo, 11th floor. There are 20 floors above us pa.

Then I learned that it was a 6.2 quake where the South China Sea was the epicenter. Manila area, intensity 5, Quezon City area, intensity 4. Being in the Mandaluyong area I guess the intensity is in between those two, hehehe. The quake was felt from Bataan down to Quezon, based on the tweets I read.

Goodness. I now can imagine the stronger quakes in Haiti and Chile. Oh my goodness, let's all pray that any quakes stronger than that will not hit us.

PS: I'm still freaked out. Major praning-ness.

Fooled!

I slept late last night to download the 15th episode of The Vampire Diaries, only to find a fake video today. ACK!

I should have wiki-ed it and checked out the episode list. "A Few Good Men" episode has not yet aired, and will only be aired tomorrow, US time of course. ACK.

Fine. Will download it on Saturday, I'm sure it's available that time.

Greatest Fear

categories:
There are only two things that are certain... change and death.

Though I still feel queazy sometimes about the thought of change, drastic change that it, I am ok about it. My greatest fear however is the second one that is certain in life... death.

Sorry for being morbid, but when my panic attack (or worse, emo mode) strikes, thoughts about death is always in the agenda. My death, death of my family members, death of relatives, friends. You name it, I think about those in my depression moods. What is more worrisome is the way death happens... accident, man-made, or dreaded diseases (aside from cancer, check out other dreaded diseases info, like mesothelioma life expectancy).

Am I abnormal or too much of a looney to think about these things? I know, I know I shouldn't worry about this everyday for fear that too much thoughts about this may actually realize it. I should focus more on the positive so that positive things happen and come to me (remember, The Secret?). Times are hard though and sometimes you just have to be prepared.

Oh well.

It's quite obvious that I'm on panic attack mode, hahaha. Wow, at least I still get to laugh at myself. Such a looney, I tell you. Hahaha.

Please welcome the new design of Vivienne Tam for HP netbooks...

The specs I guess are still the same as any regular HP mini (don't know if it has a KVM switch though). What I love about this is the color of the netbook itself, paired with the very simple butterfly design. It would have been perfect for me, since my name means "butterfly" but i guess getting this is a no-no for now. Hahaha. Oh well.

Oh, and check out the mouse...
Netbook: $599.99 - for pre-order
Mouse: $39.99 - in stock.

My Ghost chair is by far my favorite chair, but it seemed so out of place where it is right now... One of my chairs in our dining area. Actually, I wanted to complete the set but due to expenses and tightening of budget, I don't think I'd see them together in the near future. Again, a case of "I should've gotten them while I could" last year.

or this

Well, if they can't be my dining chairs (for now at least), then I'll happily use my single one as my home office chair (for my future home office... where I would update my resumes perhaps? hahaha) or a vanity chair (if ever I do get my own vanity space hehehe).

6 This Year; 1,000th Post

Wow, I just realized that this blog has been active for 6 years now. Yup, six last march 4, based on the date of my first blog entry. Actually, I've been blogging way before that but used a different platform. That was the time when blogging was not really in yet. It appealed to me however because I really like writing in journals, and virtual journals made it easier for me to do so.

Which reminds me though... where are my journals now? Hahaha. It would have been a major blast from the past if I see them. So many secrets and all. Hehehe.

Anyways, though i didn't celebrate my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th blog anniversary, I promise to do so next year, my 7th. And I'd celebrate it with a bang, so watch out for it!

*Sigh*

I really love blogging. I love that it relaxes me, it keeps me creative, it makes me think, and most of all, it will give me a glimpse of what I am now, probably different (or maybe not) from what I'd be in 10, 15, 20 years. But yes, this is my blog and I don't think I'll ever stop blogging as long as I live.

PS: Incidentally, this is my 1,000th post. WOW!

I should've bought it when I saw it like a month or so ago in SM. The salesperson however couldn't tell me if these print pictures like the Polaroid camera. And besides, my Canon Ixus still works. I wasn't really into buying one before. But then, my camera now is going bonkers (yet again) and I think and truly believe that its life span is really just 2-3 years. Hello, I'm not even that heavy a user! It's really just the looks of it that caught me (so very LV, with the brown and gold hardware style hehehe) but honestly, it's not really a good camera (hahahah, camera bashing now hahahaha).

Anyways, I really like this. The instant gratification is what's exciting.

Someday soon.

PS: In the US, it retails $ 199.99 while the ZINK photo paper is $10.99.

I've been into blog hopping this morning, and honestly I'm a little tempted to fully utilize my blog, i.e. maximize blog earnings by putting ads and be all out and active in links swaps, adgitize, entrecard, etc. Blame it on the blog post I read, where the blogger earns more than US$ 500 a month through blogging. That's quite enough to push through with Orlando vacations plans! Hahaha.

But much as I want to, I am still not fully convinced and up for it. I prefer that my blog is still a simple one, where all my thoughts, ramblings, and musings on the joys of living are, well, blogged.

Pierre Herme Craziness!

Ok. This is scary.

I am really getting addicted to Pierre Herme miniature collection. Bordering on obsession, really.

I saw this website, e-tradersplace, that sells the Pierre Herme miniature collection (2).

This collection consists of 5 different pastries with different themes: New Year, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Birthday, and Christmas.

Here's a picture on the items in detail:

Cost? PhP 1,700+ for the collection, PhP400+ for shipping.

This is deadly.

Thanks to Chuvaness' post, I was introduced to the world of Pierre Herme miniature collection. I'm not really the type who collects anything, but this made me want to start my very own collection!

I felt so child-ish when I dropped my first few tokens in Toy Kingdom, and when the egg case came out, I was ecstatic! Hahaha, yeah I know. Super funny moment. But it was really a thrill for me (not exactly a cheap thrill because it'll cost you PhP 100 a pop).

I was a bit disappointed though because what I got were the same ones. Chuvaness however didn't have the letter B, which I had two, so we agreed to trade! She's trading letter A, which I really wanted to get, hehehe.

I was beginning to feel addiction when after I got home, I googled the collection (better than collecting Acid cigars right?). Turns out that the Gashapon was just a small part of a bigger and grander miniature collection, hahahaha!

Gash, I wish I was in another country, Japan perhaps hahaha, so that I could get hold of these. My Aunt will go to Japan as part of their cruise, and maybe she can get me some of these when she sees them... please please please!

I guess I can only satisfy my craving via Toy Kingdom, and I'm sure I'd have duplicates along the way. So for those of you who are into collecting these lovely babies and have duplicates too, let's trade! Hehehe.

Aside from the Pierre Herme website, check out 8Tokyo too. I mean, look at this picture from 8Tokyo...
