Letting Go of Anger

Just a short reminder, which I found in the net...

How's Your Meralco Bill?

My Singapore Trip High got deflated after I saw our Meralco bill.

Seeing our Meralco bill was truly a major WTF moment.

Same kilowatts used as last March, but 30% higher bill.

Yes, dear friends, 30% higher.

Here's the breakdown of my daily usage:

  • 24/7 Refrigerator - frost free but very high efficiency rating.
  • 5 hours TV and DVD - for Eanna's videos.
  • 12 hours Laptop - sometimes I unplug it then plug it again when battery is low.
  • Mostly 24/7 Router and Cable modem for wireless internet.
  • 2-3 hours (not all the time) TV in the living area.
  • Hood in the kitchen - as needed. Probably less than 1 hour a day.
  • 10-12 hours aircon - 1 only.
  • Around 5 hours Electric fan.
  • 5-10 minutes water heater when bathing. But this is not everyday since sometimes I just use cold water.
  • Lights only open when it's night time, so that's around 4-5 hours?
    • 5 energy saving CFLs - around 10-13 watts.
    • Occasional use of 5 halogen lights not even 30 minutes a day. Probably 1 hour in a month?
    • 2 bathroom lights occasional use - probably 30 minutes a day or even less.
  • Charging of mobile phones - 1-2 hours every 3 days.
These are basically it. No fancy gadgets nor microwave ovens.

Day 1: Changi, Intercon, Bugis, Clark Quay

categories: ,
We arrived at Changi Airport via Singapore Airlines around 5 pm. It was a good flight, with very minimal disturbances. The food was ok (baked fish with lemon dill sauce, baked potatoes, and cold beef pasta salad), though I found the fish salty. The movie selection was good too, and I got to watch "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." The small screen was not at its best but manageable.

Going through the whole airport thing was a breeze, and we were very excited to take our MRT ride going to our hotel, Intercon. I kinda studied the MRT system already prior to our trip (yep, I had too, as my knowledge on this is rusty already) so it was not really much difficult. What was funny though was my sister left her card in the tube, so we had to stifle our laughs for fear of irritating her. Good thing when we arrived at Bugis Station, the lady who we asked for help just sent her through after seeing our baggage.

Our location was very nice and convenient indeed, and we loved the fact that Intercon is connected to the Bugis station via the Bugis Junction. Grocery was there, food court had a nice selection, and shops galore. Hehehe. Intercon looked good also, and our room was very nice and big. Its design was a bit "traditional" unlike where I stayed the last time when the furnishings and beddings were ultra modern and sleek.

We rested for a while before having dinner at the Junction food court. gash, when you convert the price to peso you'd be shocked with the high price but it's ok, it's always like that, right? Hahaha. Then we just took the cab going to Clarke Quay. That was my request because I wanted to drink and taste the nightlife (I loved it when I first went there). The place was, as expected, full of people, loud music, lights and all. I didn't drink though. Awww. I wasn't feeling it, and maybe because I was tired too.

We walked for a bit and took some pictures (of course) and discussed what to do the next day. We decided to go with my plan of heading to Orchard first thing in the morning, then Night Safari at night.

What we noticed was though there were a lot of people and teens just drinking their own booze either at the side streets or at the bridge, the place (and Singapore itself) was very clean and kept well. But I'll just blog about that later on.

Anyways, we spent some considerable time there, appreciating the view, the place itself that was full of life, and of course, people watching. Tehehehe. We came back around 12 midnight via taxi still (wanted the MRT but we felt we're already tired), and took our well-deserved rest.

Day 2 coming up soon!

When Boredom Strikes

Me: I'm bored. I'm really bored.

Husband: Kulang lang sa mall yan.

Me: Of course not. I don't even have the desire to go to the mall.

Husband: Eh di maglinis ka ng bahay.

Me: Sige, mall na lang.

A Year Older Soon

I'm turning a year older really soon, and I don't know, for some reason, I do feel old. Maybe it's because of me still on emo-mode and that I am missing my husband, but that's beside the point. I feel old. Am I?

Looks-wise, I know I look my age (at least, with or without the use of prevera), and physique wise even if I bitch about me losing weight, I know that I still look ok. Just need toning and all Now as to the mental aspect. Well, I am mental. Harharhar. Kidding aside, I feel that I can still do more to care for my mental being. Facebooking and games do not count in enriching my brain so maybe I should start reading books again. Spiritually... hmm.. I still feel I want to be more connected to God. I do pray, but the depression bug bites me often that sometimes I "lose faith." Maybe I should make a ritual too on prayer and meditation. Do some social work too, perhaps? I know, I know, I keep on planning my life but too lazy to actually act. Gash, I really think I am hit hard by Sloth, the sin. *Sigh*

Hahaha. This is the emo-mode Van talking, I know. I know that on my birthday I will be as happy as ever, with the lightest of moods, and also will feel younger. Maybe it really is a ritual for me to agonize over the B-day days before then end up merry and grateful after.

The Dukan Diet

Have you ever heard of the Dukan Diet? I have read about it the other day (sorry forgot the article's URL address) and I would like to give it a try! It is quite similar to the Atkins Diet in that it's main "principle" is to cut the intake of carbs and rely on protein but would gradually introduce fruits, veggies, and even a few carb-food later on. I read in the article that the French has adapted this diet and that they set one day a week to just eat food rich in protein. Not just taking the best protein powder, mind you, but real food that is protein-rich!

Anyways, I checked out the Dukan Diet's website but it's still in its early stage. It however gave me my "true" ideal weight after completing a form, and it pegged mine at 104.5 lbs. Hmmm. That means 5 lbs to go, hahaha. I still want my target weight though, which is 100 lbs.

I have yet to receive more info on this and the menu that's in store for me and would share this later on. In the meantime, I am scarfing down protein-rich food and minimizing my carb intake. We'll see!

Psalm 1:2 (NIV). But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.......

Thoughts on This Verse...
Delight! In things of God do you find delight? What holy things of the Father in heaven hold your thoughts throughout the day? Why not join me in trying to put more of God's word in your head through memorization and into your heart through prayerful Bible study?!

Basic Cleaning Suppliers for a Small Space

Got this from Apartment Therapy, one of my favorite websites on home design and housekeeping...

  1. Broom, Dustpan, and Mop: These are the basic tools of floor cleaning.
  2. Vacuum: Depending on the amount of carpet in your home, you may not need a big vacuum.
  3. Bucket: A mop bucket can double as a catch-all for cleaning supplies. Any modestly sized bucket with a handle will do.
  4. One Bottle of All-Purpose Cleaner: Rather than keep a bunch of different cleaners on hand, use one green all-purpose cleaner for counters and non-wood surfaces.
  5. A Box of Baking Soda: This natural ingredient is the basis for a whole range of homemade cleaners, from bathroom scrubs to drain cleaners.
  6. White Vinegar: Diluted with water, white vinegar is a great window cleaner and stain remover.
  7. Wood Cleaner: Many people recommend cleaning wood floors or furniture with white vinegar or just a dry cloth, but we've always preferred to use a cleaner made specifically for wood.
  8. A Couple of Sponges: Keep separate sponges on hand: one for dishes and one for surface cleaning.
  9. Scrub Brush: These are useful for scouring pots and pans in the kitchen. We usually only go through one at a time.
  10. Dish Soap: If you really want to make your sink area feel clean and organized, try using squeeze bottles to store your dish soap. As you refill the squeeze bottle, you can dilute the dish soap with water, making it last longer.
  11. Microfiber Cloths, Rags, or Paper Towels: We hang a rag bag near the pantry and keep it full of old cloths for cleaning. Others recommend microfiber cloths, while wall-mounted paper towels can be a convenient space saver.
  12. Dish Towels: Keep a couple of clean towels near the sink for drying dishes. They're also handy for absorbing surface spills.
  13. Laundry Detergent: In a small space, it helps to choose a small bottle laundry detergent that won't eat up too much room.

Simple right? Unless of course you have outdoor fireplaces, then maybe you'd need more cleaning tools!

Bag lovers gasped and had mixed reactions upon seeing pics of the Lady Gaga with a "defaced" Birkin...

Aside from sending a message to her "little monsters" aka fans, this is probably an unwritten message to bag hags who worship the Hermes Birkin and considers it the Holy Grail of bags:

It's JUST a bag, biatches!

Psalm 103:5 (NIV).
[Bless the Lord] who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Thoughts on This Verse:
God is a God of renewal and blessing. His desire to renew and bless us is not just a desire to bless us just once with our salvation. God desires to bless us daily. His steadfast love is new every morning as he faithfully pours out His blessings (cf. Lam. 3:23). But more than just giving us what we want, he satisfies us with good things. He brings us what we need and what truly fills our emptiness.

MYOH 2010

I love buying Havaianas for my family... Dad, Brothers, (Mom and sister got hers), Hubby, Nephew, and of course, my sweet little Darling. But I have to admit this... I never owned one. The one I have right now is my sister's and she "gave" it to me.

So I am kinda looking forward to this...
Unfortunately the only time I can go there is on the 22nd because of our Singapore trip the next day. Hopefully though I'd find time to get myself one. if not, then I can happily settle for the selections available in stores.

Hell-o to Glee

I was waiting with anticipation on the return of Glee, and was semi-obsessed in downloading the latest episode. No success though, so I just headed over the FastPasstv.com and watched it online.

The episode was.... ok. I wasn't that blown away compared to what I felt upon watching the first episode of the The Tudors (last season, huhuhuh). And it's not because I prefer watching The Tudors because of this....

It's more on, I don't know, the x-factor is a bit missing? Not sure but it really was a bit "blah" to me. The songs, I really didn't dig them that much too.

Nonetheless, I'm still glad that Glee has returned and I am looking forward to great episodes.

So here is the list of what's keeping me busy now:
  • Glee
  • Gossip Girl
  • The Tudors
  • The Vampire Diaries

Love the Internet! Hahahaha!

The Domestic Me

It's been almost 6 months since I left the corporate world and decided to be a stay at home parent. This decision has met some concerns and "issues"but so far, we are handling things quite well. Arguments here and there of course, but over all, I am still alive and kicking!

So, how do I assess myself as being a stay at home parent?

For one, I have become more conscious of our budget given that we are now a single income family. There were sacrifices of course, but more on giving up certain luxuries in life.

Second, I feel that nothing has changed. Seriously. If something did, it's more like I became lazier. Hahaha. There is now this tendency of procrastinating tasks that I wanted to do, because there is the thinking that I have all the time in the world to do it. Take for instance, spring cleaning our rooms. Until now, the only thing I accomplished is envisioning how it should be done. Yup, all the actions are just inside my head. Tehehehe.

I still hardly did any house chores save for cooking. But hey, I've been cooking our meals even when I was still working.

I'm still in front of the computer almost the whole day, as if I'm still working. I mean, hello, I've been dreaming of having my own "home office" here, right? Hahaha.

This is how I look like on certain days

Regarding my daughter... still the same. I attend to her, she still sleeps in my room, we still play a bit, but I still don't accompany her when playing with the kids downstairs, hehehe. Of course, I bring her to school and wait for her there. Outside though, because the class is teaching the kids to be without companions inside. I make sure that all her needs are met - milk, snacks, hygiene stuff, clothes, shoes, etc etc. It is difficult to brush her hair though, and sometimes her hair gets pulled. No worries and no need for hair loss cure as she has very thick hair, hahahah!

However, this is the stage where I see that my daughter loves being independent. She loves and prefers playing alone in her room (yes, she is like a teen-ager now hahaha) and just goes to me when she wants things like asking me to draw stuff for her or showing me what she drew or what she has built using her lego.

And when I think about it, I don't really "feed" her because I only prepare her meals and cut food for her but she pretty much takes care of her eating.

I still feel though that I should take this up a notch higher. No more envisioning, but really doing. I have to be careful though. I think one helicopter parent is enough for the little girl (peace, hubby!). Hehehe.

Now as to the husband... well there are usual accusations of me loving my laptop more than him, hahaha. I can hear these words in my mind as I type... "Cooking cooking, farming farming, fashion fashion." Gash, his manner of saying it. Ack. Hahahaha!

So, am I fit to be domestic goddess of our place?

It may seem that being a stay at home mom now doesn't do much for me and my family, but I think the fruits will be evident in the future. And maybe I should stop thinking and saying "I have all the time in the world" even if I really do, if only for me to move my ass out of my throne. Hahaha. Maybe I'm still in that stage where I'm still not fully adapted to it, but I know I am getting there. Maybe I should make a schedule for myself (including activities of Eanna of course).

Or am I thinking too much again?

Street Violation Incident

categories: ,
Yesterday was not really a good day for the husband, the daughter, and me. First, the daughter. She was extra clingy to me and so in her first hour on school I was inside her classroom. She warmed up to the class though so the rest of the time she was left alone.

The husband had a not so good day because of me. First I was being sensitive and emotional, second the complication in our BPI internet banking account. Long story and I don't want to dwell on it.

Now, me. I was being emo and all, then the BPI issue stressed me too much. When we were on our way from school, I didn't realizer that turning left from where I was was not allowed, and so the traffic policeman told me to stop. I reasoned out with him, told him that I honestly didn't know, that's why I even lit my signal lights. I told him I was really sorry and that I was really stressed out because of a big issue and all... Then I started crying. I was crying so hard that at first the policeman tried to appease me. Then he told me he'll just help by lowering my violation and all. But I was crying so hard, he continued to calm me down. He then went to his companion and finally told me to just take care and that I could go.

It wasn't a tactic believe me. I was crying till I arrived home. But before I went home, we had to drop by the grocery for Eanna's snacks. I called the husband and I was still crying my heart out, until my phone went dead.

All the while, the husband was already tense and stressed out. He didn't know my battery ran out, and being the paranoid him, rattled everyone. He called his Mom, he called my Mom, his Mom called my Mom, etc etc and everyone was texting me and all.

Of course when I came home and saw the messages I immediately got a satellite call from him. He was again angry like crazy. Dejavu talaga hahahaha.

Anyway, that's what happend yesterday, so I just drowned myself with work. Hope this day will not happend again.

Eanna @ Explorations Summer Classes

categories: , ,
It was Eanna's first day at Explorations Preschool Summer Class Program, and Hubby, Eanna, and I were very excited! I was even thinking about it and preparing her stuff yesterday. Hahaha.

We went there around 30 minutes earlier than her start of class, because I knew that parking is really bad there. True enough, when we arrived, only a couple of parking spaces were left.

12042010309

There were lots of kids, yayas, and parents and I had this sudden rush of nervousness and another bout of excitement. Will Eanna behave? Will I be able to leave her alone in her class?

12042010308
12042010310

Turned out that Eanna was at her best the whole time. She played in the water area table, painted, played "Mommy," finished her ABC activity board, etc etc. One of the teachers asked me if Eanna's already comfortable being left alone, and I told her that I'm not sure, but we'll try. I went to Eanna, kissed her and told her that Mama will go out. She bade me goodbye and I left. She didn't cry or anything.

12042010315
12042010317
12042010318
12042010323

I felt happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because my daughter was such a dalring inside and very independent. Sad, because, well, because of her independence. She's ok without Mama. *Huhuhu* No drama when I left the room. She just played and went on with her activities.

Her yaya, just stayed outside the classroom, while I went inside the main area to give news to my darling husband (there was internet so we were able to Skype and all). Then the kids went out to play. Yaya told me that the little lady was very well behaved, but looked for me during "circle time" when kids formed a circle and had dialogues with the teacher. I think it wasn't because of separation anxiety. It was more like she saw kids with either yaya or parent (yep, she was the only one who was left without company) she looked for me to be beside her too. It was just yaya who went in.

After their playtime was their rest time, a time to relax and calm down after a lot of activities. While other kids still played (and cried and bawled their eyes out hahaha), the little lady was just laid on her mattress, embraced her Tigger toy, and relaxed.

12042010325

The teacher told me that she's amazed at Eanna's independence and her well-behaved self. My goodness, was I the proudest parent in the world hahaha.

After rest time was story time, and still with energy, Eanna still participated and answered questions from the teacher.

12042010327

I love it. I love seeing her happy, enjoying her activities, knowing that she's growing up to become a fine young girl.

Again, happy and sad. Happy because of all the wonderful things. Sad, because, well, of all the wonderful things. I should shrug the sadness off though. She'll always be my little baby girl.

Easter Tweetup

I attended my first "Tweetup" last Thursday at the National Sports Grill (Greenbelt) and I'm so glad that I went! Finally, I got to meet people I've only twitted with, plus I met new other peeps along the way! A bonus... I met someone who happens to be a relative/cousin of mine. Isn't that sweet, hahaha!

Oh, and another major bonus... I got to see, feel, touch, tinker with the iPad. That was the star of the night hahaha. Too bad I didn't have any pictures with it. My friend did, though...

It was L-O-V-E-L-Y. All of us were mesmerized and had the same expression when we held that rocking gadget.

This was by far the most successul Tweetup (that I know of), considering that a total of 63 people attended the event. Major credit goes to "Ssowy" for the great effort.

Here are some pics...

Thanks Cha for posting the pics you took!

The Vouchers I've Been Waiting For

After forty million years, I finally received my Yellow Cab vouchers from Standard Chartered Credit Card.

They had a promo before where if you have accumulated purchase of PhP 10k or more (denomination of PhP 10k), then you get 1 free voucher. So I mega-used my card right, only to find out later on that there is a maximum of two vouchers per credit card holder. Eeeps. Hahaha, but it's ok.

I was hoping to receive them soon after but never did. Finally I called them up early this week and was told that when it was delivered last February, I wasn't there. Of course, I had to go to our lobby and suggested to them that when there are deliveries that only owners can receive but the owners aren't home, they should  give notice when the owners arrive. Right?

But anyway, I'm happy that i got the vouchers. Sad though that the husband was waiting for them too. Awwww. Love you honey.

PS: Breakfast shown in the picture above... a slice of brazo de mercedes cake, and melon juice. Healthy, not, or combined? Hahaha.

The Clothes I Plan to Keep

categories:
Inventory time for me when it comes to clothing because I am really trying hard to spring clean our place. I did my closet spring cleaning last year, but I still think I can still do much better. Maybe it's because I want to add more stuff? Hahaha.

Anyways, here are the list of clothes that I plan to keep:

  1. Little black dress - one can never go wrong with a black dress. Accessorizing is key though.
  2. Boyfriend jeans - for those laid-back moments.
  3. Slim jeans - for a more "formal" look than that of bf jeans
  4. 1-2 colored cocktail dresses - my golden yellow and emerald green. definitely for keeps.
  5. Spaghettis strap shirts - really casual days
  6. Lightweight / linen tops - I currently LOVE my white one
  7. Boyfriend shorts - again, for weekend/casual days.
  8. Knitted top - I have this cream-colored top from Tyler that has interesting sleeves. Love it too.
  9. Couple of casual shirts
  10. Pin-striped polo shirt - can be for casual or business moments.
  11. Jackets - currently have brown and khaki. I need black perhaps and a trench coat ala Burberry. Hehehe.

Pretty much it. Very casual, though not hip hop clothes hehehe. Never got to like that style hahaha.

What I do not have that I plan to get are day dresses, maybe one or two. I grew tired of my old ones and gave them all away last year. I also plan to purchase one or two more blouses, something a little more formal than t-shirts.

As for business attire, I still kept my pinstriped ensemble, and my off-white one (I LOVE THIS) but stowed them in our utility area.

My wardrobe still has to be fine-tuned and should have minimal pieces comfortable to me and my husband. He always makes it an issue that his clothes area is just 1/8 of our total closet space. Hahaha.

I really do.

Husband and I can talk for hours, for free.

Earlier he sang Eanna the happy birthday song (we make it a point that every 8th of month we buy a cake and Eanna blows the candle - she loves it!).

He also witnessed the tantrums of the little girl:
Mama: Eanna, here's Papa say hi...
Eanna: (runs to her room and shouts) NNNNNNNNNO!

Harharhar.

Best of all... I heart Skype because...

I get to see my dearest husband, my only love, sleeping....

Pentagram Test: What Type Are You?

According to the Pentagram test, I'm a Cooper Black Italic.

This is a very interesting test on what type (of font) are you. It's as if you really are talking to a psychologist / psychiatrist / whatever. Love the sound effects too.

In short, TRY IT!

My Current Beauty Essentials

categories: ,
Finally, after a pause of buying beauty stuff (one of my Holy Week vows), I headed to the mall and bought some girly stuff.

These are just three, really. Hehehe.

My red, red world:

  • Revlon Ultimate Colorstay in Top Tomato
  • Max Factor False Lashes Effect Mascara
  • Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream

Now the first two, I've tried already and loved it. My hands were totally itching to get them but of course I had to wait, hahaha. As for the Regenerist. I have very high expectations and will share to you my "review" on the product. I sincerely hope this jar will deliver, just like the way Olay Total Effects did.

I know, I am so late on getting hooked. But I am. Why haven't I watched this series before???

Thank goodness for torrents, I was able to download all series. Last night i finally started watching. And I couldn't stop!!! My husband had to remind me to sleep, or else. Hahaha.

Plot is very good, lots of twists and turns though of course, we all know history, right? But the scenes, my goodness. Veyr realistic. Even the sex scenes were woowoowie. I was probably blushing while watching hahaha.

But do watch it, if you still haven't.

I guess this will be my temporary relief for today, after the Pierre Herme Gashapon incident. Huhuhu.

I went to SM Megamall to have my quick Pierre Herme fix in Toy Kingdom. I bought a few tokens, only to find out that the Pierre Herme gashapon got emptied out.

I still couldn't believe it, and the attendant there even helped me and asked the one in charge if there is a new one or when the next delivery would be.

Super disappointed.

Apparently, there was someone who ordered her househelper to get everything.

I really felt bad. First, the collection in etradersplace.com got sold out. Then this?

Ack.
