Shochu History
- Shochu pronounced ’show-chew’
- Japanese drink like sake
- An ancient Japanese distilled spirit.
- Over 400 years old
- Shochu originated in China in the 13th century.
- Japanese Shochu has been traced back to the 15th century, originating from the most southern island of Kyushu (a province in Japan), where the climate is too warm for sake production.

Shochu Characteristics
- Characterized by its transparent color, clean aroma, and a pure taste.
- Both shochu and sake are clear in colour, but sake is brewed, like beer, while shochu is distilled, like vodka, and has a higher alcohol content (22 per cent)

Haamonii and Your Health

In general, soju is from Korea, shochu is from Japan. Both are similar, but separated by quality and taste. Haamonii Smooth is ultra premium shochu. More recently however the term shochu and soju have been used interchangeably.
